There are around 7,716 (JPKE, 2005) registered businesses in Brunei of which 97% are considered Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in a wide spectrum of the economy ranging from agriculture, construction, handicrafts, retail trading to food services. Brunei gives the ‘Ikhlas’ system the business support to enable these SMEs to gain a competitive edge, and to enhance their networks and also to their relevant stakeholders: customers , shareholders, lenders, employees and the community to name a few. Government, financial, legal and investment institution as sponsors to this system can help improve standard, statutes, and business requirements for SMEs.
